This is the "No Fatties Allowed" bill that
dontspeak posted about earlier.
First of all, I totally disagree with it. I think its an absolutely ridiculous idea. Its weight segregation, and I see no difference in that than in race segregation.
There are a few different, better ways that the government could help the rise in obesity in America without treating a high percentage of its population like they are lesser human beings.
1) A low (like 1% or something) tax on unhealthy foods. This would of course have to be looked at closely and decided by a committee of professionals what foods would get the tax. This money would go into some sort of government program to help people get healthy (think like Weight Watchers only free) and/or to fund better health education in public schools.
2) The government needs universal healthcare which covers preventative practices and health education.
3) The government needs a complete overhaul on what's required of public schools as far as teaching health. I remember health class when I was a kid. It was a joke. When I was in high school, I only had to take 6 weeks of health class for 2 years. That's 12 weeks out of 4 years that I was in a health class. That's pretty pathetic. Its also very important that health and nutrition be taught at a very young age. It should start in preschool.
So, there's my spiel. If you couldn't tell, I got pretty worked up after hearing about that Bill.
